During UTEP CHS's annual Domestic Violence Prevention awareness week in early October, the Global Alliance for Healthier Populations hosted Ms. Sbusisiwe Myeni, CEO and co-founder of Imbeleko Foundation, a key South African Global Alliance partner. While at UTEP, Ms. Myeni presented "Amplifying the Voice of the Rural Girl Child in South Africa - the History of the Future," which included the history of the Imbeleko Fou...ndation and its current work in providing holistic education and support for vulnerable children in rural South Africa. Through its nutrition, mentoring and family counseling services, the foundation is successfully matching children in socioeconomically disadvantaged families in these rural areas with opportunities to pursue higher education. The Imbeleko Foundation is one of several African community based organizations working closely with Global Alliance Co-Director and Associate Professor of Public Health Dr. Thenral Mangadu in various HIV research initiatives.
